ENSEMBLES AVAILABLE TO OUR FLUTISTS

At the Ithaca College School of Music, Theater, and Dance, there are numerous music ensembles that students can participate in. Below are the ensembles that the flute studio primarily plays in. To learn more about Ithaca's ensembles go to: https://www.ithaca.edu/music/ensembles/

Ensembles: Programs

Symphony Orchestra

From IC's Website: “Comprised of approximately 90 to 100 musicians, Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra is dedicated to performing symphonic repertoire from the baroque through the twentieth century, as well as contemporary works of our time… the Symphony Orchestra presents five to eight concert performances per year.”

The Flute Section is made up of three flutes (one playing piccolo).

Contemporary Chamber Ensemble

From IC’s Website: “The Ithaca College Contemporary Ensemble focuses on the music of our time, with emphasis on the music of living composers.”

One member in the IC Flute Studio performs with the ensemble.

Wind Ensemble

From IC's Website: ”Through a demanding schedule of concerts, tours, and recordings, the ensemble has developed a broad reputation for performing excellence, innovative programming, and commitment to new music. Concert programs include a wide variety of music including wind band classics, chamber works from a variety of historic periods, new commissions, and those newer works that serve to expand the evolving repertoire for the wind ensemble.”

There are six players in the Wind Ensemble (one playing piccolo).

Concert Band

From IC’s Website: “The Concert Band ensemble performs four to six concerts per year both on and off campus. Repertoire consists of the finest traditional and contemporary literature for the full concert band.”

There are 11 flutes in Concert Band (one playing piccolo).

Chamber Ensembles

A variety of chamber ensembles are available to members of the flute studio. These include woodwind quintets, other wind groups, flute with strings, flute with percussion, flute with guitar and other mixed ensembles.

Flute Ensemble

This student-run ensemble is open to any flutists (major or non-major) looking to have fun and to play flute-centered literature. From smaller chamber pieces to full flute choir works, Flute Ensemble offers students an opportunity to try out auxiliary (alto and bass) flutes and to play in a chamber music setting. Flute Ensemble does not require an audition.

The number of flutists vary semester to semester in this ensemble.

Campus Band 

From IC’s Website: “The Campus Band is intended for non-music majors to have an opportunity to continue to play an instrument in an ensemble. They perform a concert at the end of each semester, with a focus on high quality band literature.” Campus Band is open to all and does not require an audition.

The number of flutes varies from year to year.
